This show begins  in 1940,800 square miles of gulf coast shoreline and pine forests became a major gunnery and bombing practice during World War 2. After pearl harbor James Doolittle spent March 1942 preparing his B-5-2- squadron for the retaliatory bombing of Japan. Remnants of his test bombs believe to still exist in the park.In the late 50s Colonel Fred Gannon of Eglin Air Force Base converted this former military practice range into a public use area.In 1966 after trail and road work the lands became part of the Florida State Park systems. Image
